Light's Criteria Mnemonic

Sunday, November 6, 2011  at 7:32 PM
Here is my attempt at a mnemonic for Light's Criteria. I seem to have trouble memorizing this for some reason. It's not perfect, but hopefully will be of help. On a side note, if you want to memorize it, just try to come up with a mnemonic for it and you will probably have it down.

POS (Pleural fluid Over Serum)
PR.5 (Protein Ratio > .5)
LR.6 (LDH Ratio > .6)
PL.66 (Pleural fluid LDH > 2/3 ULN)

If you have any ideas of how to improve it or if it is helpful let me know!

  1. I remember as P=Pive=five=0.5. Therefore, pleural protein/serum albumin is greater than or equal to 0.5. Then remember next number after 0.5 is 0.6. So, pleural fluid LDH/ serum LDH more than or equal to 0.6. And lastly for pleural LDH more than 2/3 of upper limit. Hope this helps you. :D
