5 Indications for a CT Scan of the Head Without Contrast

Tuesday, November 8, 2011  at 11:15 PM
There are five main categories that a CT scan of the head without contrast can view well. They are listed below:
  1. Hemorrhage
  2. Sinuses
  3. Midline shift
  4. Bones
  5. Ventricles/Empty space
Of course these structures are visualized on other imaging modalities, but a CT without contrast is able to see them particularly well. A good list to keep in mind when choosing an imaging modality! Plus, it keeps the kidneys happy.
